When email scanning systems check an email, there are hundreds of checks performed to see if anything in the email matches known Spam techniques etc.
For each positive check, a score is assigned to the email and when the score totals a certain amount, the email is then classed as spam.
Here are some of the most common items that result in your email being classed as spam
1. The source IP address is a known Spam source. If a machine on your network gets infected or relays spam emails, then the IP Number assigned to your broadband account can be listed as a source of Spam (Blacklisted) You will need to contact your broadband provider to discuss how to have this de-listed.
2. Sending to multiple users. Most spammers send one email with many people in the cc/bcc list. Email servers have a hard limit set as to the amount of reciepients allowed per email and above that it can be rejected or classed as spam. We recommend no more than 50 per email.
3. Content of the email. Certain phrases can trigger scoring. Also using all capital letters will add it the likelyhood of being classed as Spam (and makes your email harder to read!)
4. Graphic Signatures. Adding a gif to your signature can raise your score, as a short email , like a one or 2 line response, with a graphic in your signature, closely matches many spamming techniques.
Remeber, just becuase one email got through doesnt mean they all should. Each email is scanned and scored seperately. The computer cannot decide to let them all in , just because you know the person.
